“The Making of a Marriage”

Presented by

Tim and Rebekah Royal

Introduction – The Three Stages of Marriage

Conference Goals – Movie clips, testimony and music enhance the presentation of this important conference.

Session 1 – Life Happens

This lecture will discuss the baggage that we bring into a marriage from our upbringing and circumstances that came into our lives. Tim and Rebekah convey stories from their own lives, sharing how their individual flesh patterns developed. We all learn at a very young age how to meet our own needs our own way apart from Christ. God uses marriage to surface our flesh patterns so that he can work in our lives to teach us that the flesh is not who we are and to conform us into the image of Christ.  We were never created to be able to handle the stress and pain that comes into our lives. Only when we give up on our flesh and allow God to handle our marriage and our lives through us will we experience peace.

Session 2 – Identity/Marital Roles

This lecture gives a brief teaching on your identity in Christ followed by a biblical explanation of our God given marital roles. What does it mean for the husband to be the head of the home? How does a wife submit to her husband? What about mutual submission?  What is each God given need inside each spouse? What is true love and intimacy? How does God use conflict to bring us to brokenness and intimacy with Christ?

Session 3 – Forgiveness

This very important lecture teaches us how to become free from our hurts. What is an offense or a hurt? We discuss excuses we use to not forgive.  Why is it important to forgive? Forgiveness is not only defined but you will be given step by step instructions as to how to truly forgive from the heart. This is a powerful and life changing lecture.

Session 4 -  Expectations

This lecture begins with a mini teaching on law and grace. What was the purpose of the law and how do we relate to the law as believers? A law equals a standard or an expectation. What do I do with all of my expectations on my spouse and our marriage? We discuss many of the common misperceptions about marriage and how to let go of our expectations. It ends with distinguishing the difference between expressing desires and making demands.
